Rega
The Aethos is Rega's largest integrated amplifier and the point where the design changes character. It is dual mono: a custom-wound toroidal transformer and regulated supplies feeding four 160-watt Sanken output transistors per channel, for 125 watts into 8 ohms and 156 into 6. The pre-amplifier stage is class-A discrete circuitry throughout. There is no phono stage — from here Rega expects you to choose your own, which is what the Fono and Aura are for — and five line inputs, a direct input, record out and pre-out take its place. Seventeen and a half kilos of it. What Hi-Fi? named it Best Stereo Amplifier over £3000 in both 2023 and 2024. It can also serve as the pre-amplifier for a Solis.
