ND9

The Nd9 is the top of the moving-magnet family and the closest a Rega magnet cartridge comes to its moving-coils. It keeps the fine-line nude diamond of the Nd7 but mounts it on a Boron rod cantilever — exceptionally light and stiff, so it reacts faster and transmits less distortion than aluminium. Getting the Neodymium magnet onto a solid Boron rod took Rega a watchmaker's connecting tube; the payoff is the most detail the range will give without stepping up to moving-coil. It is the factory-fit option on the Planar 8, and the cartridge for someone who wants MC-class insight with MM output and ease.
