The io is the smallest amplifier Rega makes and the least compromised way into the range. Its power amplifier stage and its moving-magnet phono stage are the same ones fitted to the Brio — Rega simply put them in a smaller case, at 30 watts per channel into 8 ohms. That buys you a complete system in one box: two line inputs, a phono input for your Planar, and a headphone output driven straight from the power amplifier through relays so nothing extra sits in the signal path. Sanken output transistors and an Alps volume control are not entry-level parts. Choose the Brio MK7 above it if you need more power or digital inputs; the io is the amplifier we hand to someone building a first proper system.
