Solis

The Solis is the power amplifier the Mercury was designed to drive, and four years went into its circuit. It is fully symmetrical and discrete throughout, with six Sanken output transistors per channel in a triple output stage, two 330VA toroidal transformers and 40,000 microfarads of Rega's K-Power smoothing per channel — enough current that 168 watts into 8 ohms becomes 305 into 4. Balanced and unbalanced inputs are both provided, though Rega is candid that for domestic use the unbalanced connection is the better one. Splitting pre and power into separate chassis is the whole point: the low-level circuitry stops living next to the high-current supply. Twenty-five kilos. An Aethos can serve as its pre-amplifier if you are getting there in stages.
