The Mercury is a pre-amplifier, not an integrated, and it is the most complex electronic product Rega has ever built — by component count, the largest thing in the catalogue. Its job is subtraction: an ultra-low noise floor, so quiet passages arrive with their detail intact instead of masked. Around that sit a high-performance DAC with coaxial, optical and asynchronous USB inputs, a discrete headphone amplifier and a full-colour display, in a CNC-machined aluminium case. The circuit traces back to the first Rega Elicit of around 1990 and has been developed ever since. Pair it with the Solis power amplifier. Like the Brio MK7, it uses a new remote code and will not answer the Solaris handset.
