The Elicit MK5 is where Rega's integrated amplifiers reach up and borrow from the Aethos. Its pre-amplifier stage is the same discrete FET design, with an Alps volume control ahead of it, and the power amplifier gives 105 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 162 into 4 — enough to make almost any loudspeaker behave. The digital section is galvanically isolated, with a Wolfson receiver and DAC feeding a Rega-designed discrete line driver. You still get the moving-magnet phono stage, plus direct in, record loop and pre-out. Over the Elex MK4 you are buying control rather than volume: the same music, held more firmly. Above it, the Aethos drops the phono stage and goes dual mono.
